Setting up a Slack integration - step-by-step guide

To install Slack, visit the integrations page in Orbit and select the Slack app from the menu.

Select 'connect' to install the Slack app to your Orbit workspace.

After selecting the connect button, you will be redirected and asked to give Orbit access to post and receive messages to and from your Slack workspace. You must also select the correct workspace from the Slack workspace menu to allow access.

🥳 Congratulations! Your Slack integration is now connected. You can configure the Slack integration, along with all other integrations on the integrations page.

Creating opportunities, solutions, and notes from Slack

Creating opportunities

  • Once you have set up your Slack integration. You can create opportunities from your Slack workspace.

  • Hover over a message and select the “more actions” button in the Slack menu.

  • If the Orbit app doesn’t appear in the shortcut menu, you will have to add it as a shortcut. Click on “more message shortcuts” and select the “create opportunity” shortcut from the Orbit app.

  • Select “create opportunity” from the Slack message

You can add the following attributes to a new opportunity from Slack:

  • Opportunity title:

  • Summary

  • Objective

  • Status

  • Assignee

  • Priority

  • Labels

Once an opportunity is added to Orbit from Slack. You can link back and view the original message in Slack.

Creating solutions from Slack

Once an opportunity is added to Orbit from Slack. You can link back and view the original message in Slack.

  • Hover over a message and select the “more actions” button in the Slack menu.

  • If the Orbit app doesn’t appear in the shortcut menu, you will have to add it as a shortcut.

  • Click on “more message shortcuts” and select the “create solution” shortcut from the Orbit app.

  • Select “create solution” from the Slack message

You can add the following attributes to a solution.

  • Title

  • Summary

  • Opportunity [The opportunity the solution addresses. This should already be created in Orbit]

Once a solution is added to Orbit from Slack. You can link back and view the original message in Slack.

Collecting feedback in Slack

Product feedback often sits in Slack messages and channels. You might even have a #productfeedback channel set up in Slack already. Make life easier by capturing feedback in the form of notes.

  • Hover over a message, and select the “more actions” button in the Slack menu.

  • If the Orbit app doesn’t appear in the shortcut menu, you will have to add it as a shortcut.

  • Click on “more message shortcuts” and select the “create note” shortcut from the Orbit app.

Select “create note” from the slack message to send feedback directly to your Orbit feedback channel. You can add the following attributes to a note directly from Slack.

  • Title

  • Summary

  • Persona

  • Labels

  • Assignee

Once a note is added to Orbit from Slack. You can link back and view the original message in Slack.

Search and filter feedback

Search and filter notes in your feedback section in Orbit to view notes that have come from Slack.

Removing your Slack integration
